			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You learn many things in a Yoga class, such as: Living in the present moment; but how can you put your Yoga into practice in today&#8217;s hectic world? We learn to meditate so the mind will stop multi-tasking, but once you leave the Yoga studio, or ashram, you have to face the world again. </p>
<p>So, how do you take the soothing effects of your Yoga practice and apply them to the rest of your day? Develop a system where you use your time wisely. This is the wisdom of time management, as applied to &#8220;real life.&#8221; </p>
<p>We&#8217;re not discussing a &#8220;catch phrase,&#8221; or short-term solution, where a manager goes to a one-day workshop on time management, and then comes back lecturing his, or her, staff, about their time management. </p>
<p>The irony is that, most of the time, this type of manager is aware of time management because he, or she, wastes plenty of time. This usually goes on until the next workshop, and then management will learn a new catch phrase to tell the staff what they are doing wrong. </p>
<p>What we are discussing is a lifestyle, and possibly a big change, just like the first time you visited a Yoga class. In a &#8220;nut shell,&#8221; we have limited time on this earth and we cannot afford to waste it thinking about future worries, past regrets, fighting with loved ones, or leaving goals on hold. </p>
<p>Most of us leave dreams, goals, relationships, and ambitions on the &#8220;back burner,&#8221; while the daily routine of life goes by. No wonder people complain about the monotony of daily tasks. Very often, we hear, &#8220;I don&#8217;t have time to learn new skills, go to night school, practice Yoga, or become a Yoga teacher.&#8221; </p>
<p>Remember when you were a child and life seemed to go by so slowly? You had time to play, watch television, listen to the radio, and lay around, without a care in the world. Now, welcome to adulthood, life is flying by at a rapid pace, and goals sometimes seem further away than ever before. </p>
<p>Your starting point is today. All you have to do is write your list of tasks for tomorrow. This is commonly called a &#8220;to do list.&#8221; You can post it on a piece of paper, on your desktop, in your PDA, or anywhere you will refer to it in a day. </p>
<p>To be honest, I put the piece of paper in my pocket and refer to it during the day. Sometimes, the lesson plan for my next Yoga class can be found in my pocket, too. This is a reflection of my time line, and my generation, but my son would put it on his PDA. Whatever you choose is fine, as long as you refer to it, and get something done. </p>
<p>Notice, I did not say get everything done. Somehow, life throws us curves and your &#8220;well laid&#8221; plans may not fit into the daily time frame. You learn this in your Yoga practice too. It is absolutely necessary that all of us accept change. These days, change occurs on a daily basis, so there is no need to become tense about it. This explains why so many corporate fitness centers have Yoga, or meditation programs, for their employees. </p>
<p>Be prepared to make modifications to your plans or &#8220;turn on a dime.&#8221; Deadlines should be taken seriously, but sometimes life gets in the way. There are times when the path you are on will have to be altered. So, be prepared to have a backup plan. </p>
<p>Remember the Serenity Prayer: &#8220;God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, courage to change the things we can, and wisdom to know the difference.&#8221; It goes without saying, that you will waste a lot of time and energy, if you don&#8217;t know the difference. </p>
<p>The next point to cover is when to multi-task. What is this? You say, &#8220;This doesn&#8217;t sound very Yogic.&#8221; Yoga refers to &#8220;unity&#8221; or &#8220;union,&#8221; and we must exist in harmony with life as it is today. The mind naturally multi-tasks so, let&#8217;s make the most of our time. </p>
<p>In ancient times people multi-tasked, too. Why else would people around the world practice meditation for thousands of years? Why else would the people of India practice Yoga for over 5,000 years? Stress was one of many things our ancestors, and the ancient Yogis, have in common with us, and we know that stress is a killer. Most likely stress is linked to every ailment that connected to mankind. </p>
<p>True irony is when you consider planning time, and start to make excuses why you don&#8217;t have time to manage, or plan, your time wisely. If you like to watch television, you could do a little planning at the same time. Ideally, it is best to be totally focused, thinking clearly, and be in a quiet place when planning time. </p>
<p>However, there are other forms of multi-tasking you can do such as listening to an audio book in the car, using an exercise bike while watching television, and reading or listening to books while traveling. There are a number of Yoga, and Yoga philosophy audio books, available. </p>
<p>On the other hand, we know multi-tasking can go too far. I will never forget commuting into Boston, stuck in traffic, and seeing a guy next to me reading a newspaper on his steering wheel! Within the same month, I saw a motorist driving with a hamburger in one hand, and a milk shake in the other, while driving through stop and go traffic on Interstate 95! </p>
<p>We&#8217;re not considering reckless multi-tasking, but consider combining tasks that don&#8217;t require 100% focus. For example, you cannot focus entirely on an audio book while driving, and you may have to listen to it quite a few times before you mentally digest all the material. </p>
<p>For this very reason, you should not consider listening to, and concentrating on, meditation audio books, while driving your car or operating machinery. Yoga philosophy is one thing, but trying to listen to or practice with a meditation audio book, while driving, is quite another. Therefore, be very careful about the safety factors involved in multi-tasking. </p>
<p>Another point to cover is logistics. When you consider where you are going, always plan to avoid &#8220;back tracking.&#8221; For example: If you are picking the kids up from school and have to get groceries, make it into a combined trip. If you make it into two trips, this is truly a waste of time. Therefore, plan your trips, whether they are time spent in a car, riding a bike, or walking. </p>
<p>Lastly, make time for family, friends, and loved ones. </p>
<p>Unify your time for a balanced life. Life is not, &#8220;all work and no play,&#8221; but life is not sitting around living the life of a &#8220;couch potato.&#8221; Remember one of the best excuses for not attending a Yoga class: &#8220;I don&#8217;t have the time.&#8221; </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In order to find a quality yoga instructor, you need to know what to look for. Since there is no universal certification program for yoga teachers, not all of them are created equal as you can see by the following example. </p>
<p>I had been practicing yoga in my home for a while when I decided to take some classes at a local center. I had been using a variety of yoga videos and DVDs that were taught by senior instructors with impeccable form, so I expected the same quality of yoga instruction when I arrived at this class. Unfortunately, it wasnt the case. The teacher who taught the class was sloppy in her style as she moved through the poses and it seemed more as if she were doing her own practice, rather than leading the class. She never came around and adjusted the alignment of any of the students, which really annoyed me because that was the main reason I decided to attend the class. Additionally, she was facing one way and the students were facing the opposite way, so it was very difficult to see what she was doing. Needless to say, I wasnt impressed.</p>
<p>I am optimistic by nature so the next morning, I took another class at the same center, but this time there was a different teacher leading the practice. Her style was more of what I was looking for. Her execution of the positions was excellent. She showed the students how to do the pose and then she got up and checked the alignment of the students and made necessary adjustments. She brought attention to those students who did a pose particularly well, and she encouraged others to go a little deeper. I was very happy with the teacher, and even though the class did not fit my schedule particularly well, I attended it on a regular basis.</p>
<p>Although my initial endeavor into the world of taking yoga classes was somewhat hit or miss, by asking certain questions and checking some details, you have a better chance of finding the right yoga instructor for you.</p>
<p>Here are some things to consider.</p>
<p>Decide what your goals are for your yoga practice.<br />
Do you want to practice yoga to relieve stress, heal from an injury, or gain strength and flexibility? If a center offers yoga that is very fast paced and very physically challenging, it probably wont be the right match for you if you want to learn how to relax. </p>
<p>What style of yoga interests you? Make sure that the center offers that particular style. </p>
<p>Are you interested in a certain level of yoga instruction? If you are a beginner, you probably dont want to take a class that lumps all levels together. You also dont want a class that is too advanced where you have a greater chance of feeling discouraged because you cant keep up with the other students, or worse, you could get injured. You want a class where the instructor takes ample time to explain the postures and also helps students achieve the correct alignment.</p>
<p>Ask out about the teachers level experience<br />
Find out how many years the teacher has been practicing yoga and how long he has been teaching. With my experience with the two yoga teachers, I found out that the one that didnt impress me had just become a teacher, while the one I liked had been teaching for quite some time.</p>
<p>Ask about how many hours of training he has received. Although there is no universal yoga teacher certification, many quality studios require that their instructors complete a minimum number of training hours before they are allowed to teach. If the instructor has 200 or more hours of training, there is a good chance that he has solid skills to work with. </p>
<p>Does the instructor know the benefits and contraindications of each pose? Can he offer modifications for students who have physical limitations? You want a teacher who can provide information about how each pose relates to your unique physical condition.</p>
<p>Also, find out if the teacher has specific training in basic anatomy. I cannot emphasize this point strongly enough. When I was in my early twenties, I took a gymnastics class which was taught by an instructor who had no training in anatomy. Each week he stretched my body in a position that caused me a great deal of pain. If he knew about body mechanics and physiology he never would never used that stretch, because it is almost guaranteed to cause injury. The end result for me was years of pain and permanent injury. If the teacher is not trained in anatomy run, dont walk, out of the class.</p>
<p>What is the teachers personal style?<br />
In order for you to get the most out of yoga, you have to feel comfortable with the teacher. Is the teacher friendly, encouraging, and supportive? Does she treat students and others with respect? </p>
<p>Yoga is intensely personal so it is critical that you like and trust the teacher. She will be touching your body to adjust your alignment, so you need to feel totally safe with her. A good instructor will make the class a secure and peaceful experience for students.</p>
<p>How clean is the studio?<br />
As you look around, do you notice dust or dirt? Is there a musty or sweaty odor? A yoga class encourages you to practice barefoot and breathe deeply. It is very difficult to get the most from your yoga instruction if you are worried about contracting a disease from an unclean studio.</p>
<p>How does the teacher handle your personal beliefs?<br />
A good yoga teacher does not impose her personal beliefs on students. Yoga is not a religion. You should be able to practice any religion, or none at all, and still feel comfortable in the class. You also should not be required to eat or act a certain way to be considered acceptable to the teacher.</p>
<p>Yoga promotes freedom, so you should not be held bondage to someone elses beliefs. You should be free to live whichever way is right for you.</p>
<p>Quality yoga instruction can be very important for you in your yoga journey. By keeping these ideas in mind when you search for a yoga teacher, you are very likely to find the one that is just right for you.</p>

I couldn&#8217;t sit down during the acute phase, only lie or stand, though standing itself was uncomfortable at the time. Once the acute phase had passed (with rest, although acupuncture and shiatsu are great), I had the fortune to meet some yoga teachers and I started going to their classes. I started out with Oki yoga, which is a Japanese form of yoga, and very good for healing the body. </p>
<p>I was given a series of correcting and strengthening exercises designed to improve my back and specific to the meridians that were in need of attention in my particular case. Oki yoga has postures classified on how they affect the meridians, which are like energetic pathways within our body. And that was the one thing that helped restore my back completely, to a state that was actually better than it was before I injured myself. When you are suffering an acute injury though, yoga really shouldn&#8217;t be attempted until that stage has passed. </p>
<p>That introduction to yoga ignited a deep love of it through which I began to see the more subtle health benefits it brought to my life. Yoga can help with a wide spectrum of physical issues and injuries, but it is also an excellent alternative to the gym for those that find the repetition and distraction of it not to their taste. It is great for toning up your body, whilst gaining flexibility. </p>
<p>Yoga has a reputation for flexibility, and deservedly so. But it can also develop strength. Developing strength is particularly important for women. Women tend to be more flexible than men, but not as strong, unless they have been involved in fitness regularly. But unlike many traditional forms of exercise, yoga also strengthens the inner muscles and organs in our bodies. It makes a great preparation for childbirth! </p>
<p>Yoga also develops discipline. This comes in making the time on a regular basis to either go to classes, or practice yoga in your living room, or in the morning sun in the garden. But there is a more subtle level of discipline. It starts with bringing your mind to focus on your breathing, and then feeling the effects of a posture on your body. This conscious exploration is quite a different experience of fitness than usually seen at the gym &#8211; where loud music, televisions and other external stimuli fight for your attention. You won&#8217;t see people with headphones on, or reading a magazine, whilst doing yoga. </p>
<p>This conscious exploration establishes a relationship with your body, and its importance cannot be overstated. So often, parts of us are frozen, or numb in some ways. This can express physically as pain, coldness, or stiffness. Energetically, it is as though despite trying to concentrate on an area, we just cannot feel connected to it. </p>
<p>In a more subtle way, when we feel the points of resistance within our body as we do a pose &#8211; when we breathe into that stiffness, and sometimes pain, we develop a resilience and mental fortitude. Yoga does, of course, help with concentration. But that process of releasing and going beyond the point of physical limitation is not limited to the body. It develops a quiet confidence and knowledge about one&#8217;s own capacity that is not held back by the boundaries we may have falsely believed about ourselves before. With a yoga practice, we can get back in touch with what yogi&#8217;s call our dharma, our purpose in life. And we find in ourselves, by virtue of our growing strength, the courage to follow that path. </p>
<p>And finally, a quote from a yoga teacher from Sydney, Australia, Eileen Hall, printed in the Australian Yoga Life magazine: </p>
<p>&#8220;Yoga is not about relaxation, it&#8217;s not about losing weight, it&#8217;s not about learning meditation. It&#8217;s about discovering the divine being within ourselves.&#8221; </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are many things that we know, we should do, but there&#8217;s never enough time. Would you like to have more time for your family, Yoga practice, and some quality time, in your life? Maybe, work keeps you too busy, from doing the right things, for yourself, and your loved ones. So, what can you do? </p>
<p>After all, you need to put food on the table and work is a priority. In reality work is only a part of life, and you would realize that, if you lost your job. All of us go through a grievance period, after losing a job, marriage, or a loved one. </p>
<p>At that point, we must make a decision, to continue on, or give up. Now, I am assuming you are not the type to give up. After moving on, we look back at the pain and healing process. Our personalities are developed, and conditioned, from many components. These components help us &#8220;keep it together,&#8221; such as: Family, friends, work, prayer, and hobbies. </p>
<p>Most of you know that Yoga means &#8220;unity,&#8221; but do you realize you are practicing union, or unity, every day, even if you don&#8217;t officially practice in a Yoga class? Below is a list of things that you should do every day, or almost every day. </p>
<p>You will notice that work should not be done every day, in order to live life in moderation. Everyone needs a day off, so enjoy your weekends, when possible, and don&#8217;t skip vacations. </p>
<p>Prayer is part of every religion and should be a part of every day. I don&#8217;t care what religion you practice, that is your business. Luckily, most of the religions on this planet have universal principles that apply to all. Don&#8217;t forget that, you need spiritual, physical, and mental health to be complete. By the way that&#8217;s a Yogic principle too. </p>
<p>Family time is so important that we have a dysfunctional generation growing up, due to lack of attention to our children. Some children don&#8217;t really know their parents, because they are sometimes brought up by someone else, or a day care center. Lack of bonding time creates inherent problems for parent and child. </p>
<p>Take the time to eat together without arguments and play with your children. Expose your children to religion, games, hobbies, humor, and Yoga practice. Give your spouse or partner a hug and tell them how valuable they are. Self-worth and recognition keep them going too. </p>
<p>Good friends should not be ignored. They are few and far between. You may find your Yoga friends to be valuable company too. </p>
<p>Be conscious of all the following every moment that you can. Breathing doesn&#8217;t have to be learned from your Yoga teacher and forgotten. You should practice proper breathing every moment you think of it. </p>
<p>Proper posturing should be practiced when you are sitting, standing, walking, eating, and using your computer. Exercise should be part of everyday and you should be conscious of your nutrition at all times. </p>
<p>Consuming eight glasses of water per day minimum is important for digestion, elimination, your skin, your vital organs, and removing toxins. Please spare the excuses &#8211; many people have no problem drinking eight sodas per day. By the way, that&#8217;s not good, even if it is diet soda. </p>
<p>Work is a must, unless you are independently wealthy. Work should also help you keep your sanity. If this is not the case, look for a job that is rewarding. </p>
<p>Hobbies are good for your sanity too, but like all of the above they are part of a healthy life. So, how can you make all of this fit into your life? If you go to Yoga classes, you already do. </p>
<p>However, if you haven&#8217;t had the time to learn or practice Yoga, you must make the time. Once you do, you will wonder why it took you so long, to start learning Yoga. You will make new friends and live a happier life. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Once you have decided to practice yoga for better living and spiritual health, you need to take care of the following points so as to prevent injuries to your physical self: </p>
<p>*	Physical condition of the individual: usually, it is recommended that people with normal health practice do yoga practice. But if you are suffering from some physical problems and are using yoga to cure it, you need to follow certain precautions since performing yoga practices without proper precautions may lead to harmful effects on the body. This is because the internal organs like heart, lungs, kidneys etc. are involved and may get harmed if you do not practice yoga properly. Hence it is recommended that you follow the yoga techniques under the expert guidance. </p>
<p>*	Right advice: it is important for you to get the proper instructor to teach you the yoga techniques. Usually, people who choose the profession of a yoga teacher do not understand the scientific basis behind the yoga practice and just impose their opinions and likes and dislikes on the students. They bring an element of mystery, charge exorbitant fees and introduce rites and rituals which are not a part of yoga. </p>
<p>*	Age and sex: yoga can be practiced by anybody irrespective of age and sex. However it is important to note that certain yoga techniques should not be followed under certain circumstances. Women, who are pregnant or menstruating, should avoid the poses which lay a great stress on the abdomen. Children below eight years should not practice any yogic technique but yogic breathing should be introduced only after twelve years. Very young and old should avoid the poses with the intense twists. After a certain age avoid strenuous practice but you can practice pranayam, dhyana and simple postures. </p>
<p>*	Place and surroundings: the place for yoga should be well protected from, animals, rodents and insects. If you choose the indoor room, keep it well lit and should be airy. If you choose the outdoors, the surroundings should be quiet. But avoid the outdoors if it is cold, rainy or very hot. The ground chosen should be plain and flat. </p>
<p>*	Time: morning is the ideal time for the practice since it incorporates regularity, but evening time can also be chosen since the body is already warmed up. Your stomach should not be completely full. So if you have had a meal, you can perform yoga after five hours. </p>
<p>*	Diet: take simple and nutritious diet. Do not overeat. Keep chillies and spices to the minimum. It is not important to be vegetarians but do not eat more than your body&#8217;s requirements. </p>
<p>*	Interval: it is advisable to be regular but if for some reason like a lot of work in office or sickness or any other reason you need to skip a day or two it is fine. But once the reason is over, go back to your original routine. Avoid taking long and frequent gaps. </p>
<p>*	Clothing: choose light and loose fitting clothes. If you live in a hot climate, you can opt for the sleeveless shirt or a vest. However, in temperate climate, your clothing should offer protection against the cold weather but at the same time do not hinder the movements. </p>
<p>*	The seat: always perform the yoga practice on the mat or a carpet but never on the uncovered floor. </p>
<p>*	The order of different techniques: when you are combining different techniques like surya namaskar, weight training etc. with yoga, keep a rest period of fifteen minutes between the two. Within the yoga practice, start off by postural techniques, followed by breathing techniques and the techniques of mental concentration in the mentioned order. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One more study tells the world, that Yoga can help with weight control and weight loss. The latest study was held by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington. </p>
<p>The study involved 15,500 healthy, middle-aged, men and women. This is a group that typically has dfficulty with weight loss, since the number of calories needed declines, and the energy levels needed to burn calories, is not what it used to be. </p>
<p>Unfortunately, this is a fact that I have become painfully aware of during the past few years, and cutting back on food was my unwanted last option. Although, I cross train almost daily, it took me one year to lose 16 pounds of extra weight. </p>
<p>Back to the study: Yoga practice was defined as practicing at least 30 minutes once a week for four or more years. Comparatively speaking, this is truly &#8220;bare minimum,&#8221; and many Yoga teachers used to say that this amount of Yoga will do nothing. </p>
<p>How times change; Yoga has been keeping people fit for approximately 5,000 years, and its many health benefits are still a mystery worthy of more studies. </p>
<p>Alan R. Kristal, Dr.P.H., the study&#8217;s lead author at Hutchinson Center&#8217;s Public Health Sciences Division said, &#8220;Men and women who were of normal weight at age 45, and who regularly practiced Yoga, gained about three fewer pounds during that 10-year period than those who didn&#8217;t practice Yoga.&#8221; </p>
<p>Until all the studies are in, it would be safe to say that adding Yoga practice to your weekly routine, and eating wisely, will contribute to weight control or weight loss. </p>
<p>When seeking a Yoga teacher, find one who is compassionate, yet will encourage you to practice more frequently. The results you will gain from regular practice, of three to four Yoga classes per week, will be extraordinary, especially, if you practice Yoga for years. </p>
<p>Yoga is very low impact &#8211; in comparison to many aerobic exercise routines, and can be practiced for longevity. Your knees, spine, hips, and shoulders, will thank you for the condition Yoga will keep them in. Many of today&#8217;s &#8220;standard&#8221; forms of exercise do not have the same &#8220;bragging rights,&#8221; as Yoga. </p>
<p>With respect to eating, take the time to identify hunger and cravings. You will notice that they are not the same thing. Being a chocolate lover, it is much better to eat a piece of chocolate, now and then, than to buy a dozen chocolate donuts. This is not to justify, or surrender, to chocolate, but to eat it in moderation, and not every day. </p>
<p>Based upon what I have said so far, it is all about identification, control, and moderation. We have to stop &#8220;mindless eating&#8221; habits. </p>
<p>Recently, researchers found that women who received a 1200 mg. calcium supplement, on a daily basis, reduced their number of premenstrual food cravings by 54%. </p>
<p>On another note: When you have anxiety, your body produces more of the hormone cortisol, which may increase the volume of carbohydrates you eat. Carbohydrates temporarily increase our levels of serotonin, making us feel relaxed for the short term. </p>
<p>Learn the art of substituting foods for more nutritionally dense variations. I cover this, in detail, in my e-Book, </p>
<p>Being in the best shape you can be is also connected to positive thinking. Therefore, use self-improvement sources to keep you on the right track toward optimum health. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When one of us decides to pursue the study of Yoga, we find ourselves living and learning Yoga every day. On or off the mat, Yoga students can apply their practice to the many lessons life has to offer. The result of all this learning, and applying Yogic principles to life, is a major leap in self-improvement. </p>
<p>You can learn from your past, live the present moment in harmony, and plan your future, with an improved perspective of each. Past, present, and future are valuable, but each is important in a different way. </p>
<p>Let&#8217;s first address the past. Many people are &#8220;prisoners&#8221; to their past. When you look at past lessons, mistakes, and set-backs, each is as valuable as any form of higher education. This becomes life experience, and you should make the most of any form of education; otherwise you are wasting your life experiences, twice &#8211; first by learning them, and then later by regretting, blaming, and second guessing yourself. On top of this, you can create poor mental, physical, and spiritual health. </p>
<p>This is the exact opposite from what you are taught in a Yoga class. Yoga teaches you to unify these components of health, and this will enable you to improve your entire being. Put past worries, adversity, and pains behind you. </p>
<p>You can save them in a &#8220;mental file,&#8221; much like a valuable book. This teaches you not to repeat the same mistake twice. Remember that the past is filled with accomplishments, too. If you can read these words, you must be accomplishing quite a bit. </p>
<p>Be fair with yourself and try not to be so critical. Let go of guilt and forgive yourself for being human. If you start to sink into deep dark past regrets, practice pranayama; breath awareness is the key to bringing you into the present. </p>
<p>This is much similar to what you might do when holding an asana for an extended time during your Yoga practice. This will also allow you to focus on the most important time of all &#8211; the present moment. </p>
<p>The present is the time for action, and you must be proactive in order to succeed in life. Good reactions will save your life, but proactive behavior requires planning, innovation, vision, and perseverance. You must focus on the present to see opportunities which are right in front of you. </p>
<p>Life is filled with many obstacles and you have to be ready for the daily challenge. You cannot change the past, but you can change the present and future. Every successful person has faced criticism, failure, and self-doubt. </p>
<p>When you let negative thoughts into your heart and mind, you cannot think clearly. You cannot act now, and this affects your ability to plan for the future. How can you visualize success, if you are letting fear and self-doubt control your life? </p>
<p>Fill your mind with passion that motivates you to step forward and plan your future. When you meditate, take the time to visualize your success, achievements, and goals as vividly as possible. When you practice meditation and Yoga in this way, you will find yourself enjoying life, helping others, and on your path to success. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>At one time, or another, all of us have experienced insomnia for any type of reason. There are times when lack of sleep just can&#8217;t be helped, such as: the loss a loved one, going through a divorce, and losing your job. </p>
<p>These are some of life&#8217;s serious crisis situations, where we have to let time heal, and try not to fall apart in the process. Some of the solutions below will help insomnia, but they will not heal grief. </p>
<p>However, if you are continually staying awake over trivial matters, these solutions will aid you to get a good night&#8217;s rest. Remember &#8211; not every solution will work for everyone, so try the easiest ideas and make them fit into your lifestyle. </p>
<p>Do you have one or more problems, on your mind, that are troubling you at bedtime? If so, write it down and leave it on the kitchen table where you sit in the morning. This is a form of compartmentalization, where your subconscious mind works on a solution, and you and your conscious mind get some needed rest. </p>
<p>You will be surprised what happens the following morning. The problem is much less important or your subconscious found the solution. This technique is so powerful that many successful people use it, even when they don&#8217;t really have a problem. This keeps you organized, on a daily basis, and you will get more accomplished in life. </p>
<p>That leads into the next idea, which is establishing a daily routine. Your body has a natural cycle, and most of us ignore it. Modern humans are more out of tune with their bodies than ever before, so we have to get back to basics and design a schedule for all tasks &#8211; including sleep. </p>
<p>You should exercise every day, but your exercise routine should end two hours before bedtime, at the latest. This allows your body and mind &#8220;cool down&#8221; time. If you can exercise earlier in the day, feel free to do so. </p>
<p>Exercise will give you extra energy during the day, and help you get a good night&#8217;s sleep, when you need it. If you don&#8217;t exercise, don&#8217;t feel alone, but do take action. Gentle Yoga postures are a great way to start. </p>
<p>If you find the right Yoga teacher, you will learn controlled breathing (pranayama), stage-by-stage relaxation, and meditation. Each is a powerful technique for winding down before bedtime. You always practice controlled breathing with either, stage-by-stage relaxation, or meditation. Some people practice stage-by-stage relaxation in bed and fall asleep in the process. This is not a bad thing, if your ultimate goal is to fall asleep. </p>
<p>Now let&#8217;s look at a few other ideas, such as alcohol and hidden caffeine. Alcohol has a way of getting you to sleep, but sleep is often interrupted during the night. One suggestion, if you enjoy drinking: Have one small drink; preferably wine, with your meal. </p>
<p>Caffeine is in coffee, many teas, many sodas, and a variety of other drinks. Drink water later in the day, and give your body a rest from caffeine. </p>
<p>Here are a few actions to take before bedtime: Eat very light, read a book about something peaceful, and take a shower or a bath. You don&#8217;t have to do everything, but one of the above-mentioned ideas will work for you. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>How do you measure success? Do you think of physical, mental, spiritual, influential, or monetary success? It is important to be honest with yourself and know that you may be very successful in one area, but not in another. </p>
<p>Therefore, look at your strengths and be honest with yourself about what your goals really are. There have been many successful Yogis, and some spiritual leaders, who had the clothes on their backs as their only possessions. They did not pursue material wealth, but instead, helped others until their last day. </p>
<p>How can I say they were successful? They chose the path that they wanted, and some have had tremendous influence without material wealth. They were men and women of conscience who humbled the powerful. </p>
<p>This is not to say that a Yoga teacher must live in poverty to be influential. An oath of poverty to help humankind is noble, but not for everyone. Personally, a balanced approach to physical, mental, spiritual, influential, and monetary success is easier for most of us to live with. Let&#8217;s take a look at the five successes and see how you can build on them, help others, and live the best life you can. </p>
<p>If you teach Hatha Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, or another physical style of Yoga, your body will be in &#8220;good shape.&#8221; Many people perceive good shape to mean muscles, but forget about the benefits to the joints, bones, and internal organs. Yoga is good for all of them and is a total health program. </p>
<p>Anyone who takes the time to meditate, and practice pranayama, will have better mental health. As a serious Yoga practitioner, or Yoga teacher, you should practice this daily, even if you do not have Yoga classes today. All of the other forms of success will yield mental health, as well. </p>
<p>Some styles of Yoga are more spiritual than others. In the west, most practitioners only think of Hatha Yoga, but there are many other spiritual Yoga styles. However, if spiritual Yoga does not fit into your lifestyle, prayers will help. Spiritual health is just as important as any other type of success. </p>
<p>The power of influence is a part of teaching Yoga. Therefore, never misuse it and never take advantage of your Yoga students, family, or friends. However, if you see an opportunity that will help the common good, never avoid using the influence you have acquired. </p>
<p>About money: Some people think, &#8220;Money is the root of evil.&#8221; I totally disagree because money is only a commodity, such as energy. If we misuse it, that is our loss, but if we help others, that is rewarding to all of us. Much like when we use energy, we are only temporary &#8220;keepers of money.&#8221; </p>
<p>Make use of money, and help those who you can. Strangely, more money will come back to you, as a result of being charitable. This is the cycle of karma, success, and life. </p>
<p>There is nothing wrong with success and self-improvement. When you take each aspect of success, and develop them all in harmony for the common good, that is also a form of Yoga. You might even refer to this method as the &#8220;Union of Success,&#8221; which could be named &#8220;Jayati Yoga.&#8221; </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Until a certain age in life, words like dignity, quality of life, and independence seem to be more suitable for descriptions, or reasons, why independent nations had revolutionary wars, than for senior independence. However, for seniors, these words reflect the need to stay the course of independence. </p>
<p>In some cases, our bodies go on existing, while our physical and mental health is slipping away. We need something that will maintain our health, aside from another prescription, with side effects. </p>
<p>Walking offers many good benefits, but some of us have more wear and tear on the knees, hips, and back, than we would like. We gave up running years ago, and walking is fine, but has to be kept in moderation. We should still walk when, or if, it is possible, but you have to listen to your body and walk accordingly. </p>
<p>Chair Yoga offers a safe, low-impact workout, with cross training benefits that will change your life for the best. Flexibility, mobility, bone density, and strength can all be enhanced with the practice of Chair Yoga. </p>
<p>With flexibility comes &#8220;new found&#8221; mobility, and this contributes to independence. Many Chair Yoga students start a walking program, or use an exercise bike, elliptical trainer, or tread mill, for enhanced cardiovascular work &#8211; shortly after seeing the results of flexibility and mobility. </p>
<p>Fall prevention is also covered in most Chair Yoga classes. Most of us realize the potential consequences of falling down, with bones that are not as pliable as they used to be. We all know how devastating a broken hip can be. Therefore, balancing exercises are covered, and students are reminded to work on balancing at home. </p>
<p>At home, the walls, and your kitchen counter, can also be used for sturdy props when working on balancing exercises. You should also be aware that some prescriptions will affect your balance. This is one more good reason to talk to your doctor, or pharmacist, about the side effects of any prescription. </p>
<p>You can also research any prescription&#8217;s side effects on the Internet, by going to a search engine and entering the name of the product in your search. This will take you to the manufacturer&#8217;s site, and at the bottom, you will see the possible side effects of that particular prescription. </p>
<p>Getting back to flexibility, mobility, and balance &#8211; you can make the most of your life by visiting a local Senior Center or Yoga studio to inquire about Chair Yoga classes. Some classes are also a mix of disciplines, and may be labeled as stretch, wellness, or stretch and tone classes. </p>
<p>If possible, try a class to see if it fits your needs. You will start feeling the results in a week or two and make the most of your life, right now. No matter how much time we have left, we all want to remain independent and keep our dignity intact. </p>
